Sir, - It is a sad day for Irish democracy when a small group of Protestant citizens feel unable to march down a few hundred yards of Dawson Street in celebration of their heritage, because of intimidation and abuse.
It tells us something about Irish hypocrisy when political leaders and other public figures - men and women who stand to attention before a flag with an orange panel - refuse to come out and support the rights of the so-called "second tradition".
We now know that the Protestant community in Northern Ireland are not incorrect when they say their rights would be none too safe in a united Ireland. An honest people would now rip the orange panel from the Tricolour and have done with the hypocrisy which its presence there entails. But, of course, we do not have the courage of our convictions. It appears that Thomas Davis taught in vain! - Yours, etc., Kevin Haddick Flynn,
Hollick Wood Avenue, Friern Barnet, London N12.
