Sir, - Cars, vans and motorcycles running red lights are an everyday phenomenon in Dublin and most experienced pedestrians and drivers have built in a slight delay before setting off across a junction. However of late I have witnessed countless Dublin Bus vehicles, single and double deckers, blasting through red lights. These buses can hold dozens of people and the potential carnage caused by one of these green behemoths ignoring the traffic signals can only be imagined.

I'm sure the Dublin Bus PR people could churn out some statistical guff about it having an exemplary safety and accident record but it seems to me that but for evasive action by many pedestrians and motorists, combined with a large slice of blind luck, the death toll on city streets would be much higher than it already is. - Yours, etc.,
