Sir, - A picture, the saying goes, is worth a thousand words, and an apt cartoon, I would add, is worth many more than a thousand words. Martyn Turner's cartoon in your edition of June 1st is indeed apt. Looking at it, the questions and thoughts which spring to mind are: How can so many countries who, no doubt, see themselves as modern, civilised societies, persist in this daily widespread and destructive bombing campaign in Yugoslavia? And more to the point, how can our own Government continue to believe that the campaign described by Grainne Boyle (Letters, June 1st) is "warranted"? If NATO are the "good guys", then God help us all! - Yours, etc., Harry McCauley,
