Madam, - I note in your issue of May 14th that the Abbey Theatre's cumulative deficit of around €3.5 million (estimates vary) received extensive coverage on three pages, while in your issue of the previous date the overrun of €9 billion on road projects within the State was accorded but one brief report. A sense of proportion seems to be lacking in your coverage.
The Abbey Theatre's chief executive has very honourably resigned from his post, and the artistic director has "stood down" six months before his contract is due to expire. How many executives of the National Roads Authority, or officers of the Departments of Transport and the Environment, have resigned over the latter appalling revelation, I wonder? And how many ministers? - Yours, etc,
