Sir, – A man found guilty of defrauding the Department of Social Welfare of €250,000 has been sentenced to 12 years in jail (Home News, July 22nd). May we now expect to see Madoff-type sentences for the perpetrators of our economic downfall, which has cost us many multiples of this instance of welfare fraud? – Yours, etc,
