Sir, Having recently seen the film Michael Collins in the United States, I am of the firm opinion that it will play no significant part in hindering the current "peace process". The film is entertaining and I was captivated throughout, particularly by the powerful performance of Liam Neeson as Collins.
Although there is some poetic license taken with certain historical events, I felt that the message conveyed was that Collins was a man with much integrity who devoted his life to ending British oppression in Ireland. To criticise the film, as British tabloids have done, on the basis that it will give fuel to the IRA is absolute nonsense. The IRA does not need this film to continue its campaign - the British Government's stupidity, and unionist intransigence, will ensure that the conflict will continue indefinitely. - Yours, etc,
