Sir, - With the Supreme Court's rejection of Lancefort's valiant attempts to save the buildings on the Treasury Holdings site in College Green, another death knell has sounded for the future of Dublin's architectural heritage. Right in the core of Dublin's now less than fair city will stand yet another architectural montage, a further monument to the shortsightedness of the authorities of our city and State, adding to the serried ranks of facade-ism, and contributing further to the creation of a virtual reality city.
As the flock of construction cranes hovers over our city like vultures over a putrefying corpse, laid waste to satisfy the insatiable appetite of the Celtic Tiger, the death warrant of another part of our architectural heritage has been signed by a short-sighted planning policy.
Looking at the ravages perpetrated by a past generation of speculators, we said "never again". But the voices of moderation and reason have been drowned out by the Celtic Tiger's roar. - Yours, etc., Anne Holliday,
Dargle Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
