Madam, - Having read Patsy McGarry's reports in your editions of June 9th and 10th concerning the case of the late Father Noel Reynolds, I wonder if the leaders of the Catholic Church in Ireland have abandoned any effort at the Christian ethos in favour of something else.
What sort of Holy Spirit whispers to senior clergy to hire media experts and lawyers when confronted with the truth?
I get the impression that senior Church members are crippled by fear and are incapable of providing spiritual and emotional support for those in need. I don't think anyone wants this situation to continue.
I would be glad if someone would explain to me why Cardinal Connell can't ask the people whose assets he is minding (ordinary Church members) for advice. I would suggest a couple of open meetings along the lines he organised for the proposed synod a while ago. - Yours, etc.,
