Sir, - Your report (The Irish Times, May 5th) on the death of Cardinal O'Connor of New York includes the epithet "conservative". True, he was no trendy liberal. Rather, he was a radical who prophetically proclaimed the truth. Hence his unpopularity in politically correct circles.
Witness his credentials. For one thing, he always spoke out against the abomination of abortion. Next, he publicly opposed the wicked Gulf War. Last, he criticised abuses by the British state in Ireland. Thus he upheld the visionary values of life, peace and justice. - Yours, etc.,
J. A. Barnwell, St Patrick's Road, Dublin 9.
