Bus Eireann timetable blues

Madam, – In the midst of various complaints that the rip-off republic is fleecing valued tourists (August 3rd), what a relief that the state coach company is refusing to get in on the act. In fact, it seems like they don’t want anyone’s business at all: gone is their website’s ability to allow a simple search of timetables and connections, and in its place are drab, confusing pdf timetables of boundless annoyance.

Unless you already know your route number, or the difference between an Expressway and a Commuter service, there’s little point. Happily, a visitor with no prior knowledge of Irish geography or bus routes, and those with limited English, will find the site so useless that he or she will have no cause to hand over money to Bus Éireann, and will be unable to travel beyond their point of departure to be met by waiting rip-off merchants. – Yours, etc,

RURAIDH CONLON O’REILLY,

The Cutlers,

Parliament Street, Dublin 2
