Sir, - Over the recent holiday season I visited friends in Malahide by car, because of the restricted public transport service and the rainy weather. This journey was my first real exposure to one of the bus corridors recently introduced in Dublin. The stretch of route up Amiens Street and the North Strand through Fairview and out the Malahide Road via Coolock can at best be described as chaotic and hazardous.
The recent extension of certain pavement areas and the current incoherent maze of road/street markings only further confuses all road users who have to commute daily along these routes and adds to the existing traffic congestionin the city.
The current approach to traffic management seems designed to intimidate motorists, who contribute in no small way to the Exchequer, off the roads in an effort to accommodate public transport needs. - Yours, etc.,
Peter Gaughan, Monkstown, Co Dublin.
