Madam, - Like many people, Alex Stavely (November 26th) thinks that "Baby on Board" stickers are to encourage other drivers to drive more carefully.
In fact they originated following an incident in the United States in which emergency services missed a baby when attending to a road traffic collision. The purpose of the notice is to alert people assisting at the scene of an accident.
By rights these notices should be removed when there is no baby on board.
It's a good idea that has lost its way, I'm afraid, and this is even more irritating when one reflects on its true origins. - Yours, etc,
