Sir, - Your correspondent Tom Burke (April 15th) will be pleased to know that there is a new Heritage Centre opening in Athy, Co Kildare in early May with one section devoted to the first World War. The Athy Heritage Centre will acknowledge the contributions made by Irishmen such as Lieutenant John Vincent Holland of the 7th Leinster Regiment of the 16th (Irish) Division from Athy who won the Victoria Cross for his bravery at Guillemont on September 3rd, 1916. The centre will stand as a testament to all Irishmen who fought in the Great War and especially to the contribution made by more than 2,000 men from Athy and district, of whom 184 were killed in action.
