Arrests In Colombia

Sir, - I was born in Belfast in 1957 and lived there until I was about 18. I have no sympathy with any party that believes any form of violence will further its cause.

I now live in New Zealand and watch the "peace process" with interest and hope, but I do know that man's inhumanity to man is never far away.

I also know most people in Ireland want a peaceful life. I was visiting family during the time of the Omagh bombing and the feeling from people both north and south was a yearning for reconciliation.

The arrests in Bogota simply expose the whole sorry mess for what it is. It is about corruption, weapons, illicit money and a lifestyle for thugs that crosses all borders, boundaries and governments.
