Madam, - The saddest aspect of your Editorial on Kosovo (February 18th) was your failure to mention the historic, cultural and religious links that bind this province to the greater Serbia.

Kosovo has been, and always will be, the cradle of Serbian civilisation and its declaration of independence, enforced by the support of some great Western powers and their subservient allies, is a travesty of International law. There has been no international or UN resolution to legitimise this State .

There are many European countries that will not recognise Kosovan independence, unfortunately not including Ireland. Dermot Ahern's lame contention that the suppression of the Muslim Kosovars by the once-off brutal Milosovic regime justifies the loss to Serbia of Kosovo is plainly not tenable or moral. - Yours, etc,
