Madam, – Fintan O’Toole makes some valid points about Bertie Ahern in his column (“Ahern’s malingering scorns public service ethos”, Opinion, August 11th). But the most astonishing part is that Mr Ahern has disappeared into his new celebrity role, despite the farcical tribunals which have cost millions to the taxpayer. It is an outrage if Mr Ahern believes he can hold public office in future while there are still questions to be answered concerning various “dig-outs” from political cronies. The gravy train has finally stopped.
