Sir, – Congratulations on the publication of the “Active Ageing” supplement (May 9th).
The inspirational case studies, the wisdom gained over a long life, and the features on some of the key issues facing Ireland and Europe’s ageing population provide much food for thought. It is essential reading, not only for the 11 per cent of the population who are already aged 65 and over, but for everyone who intends growing old in Ireland.
The special report will also challenge those who view ageing in negative terms.
By highlighting the huge contribution that older people are currently making in Ireland, it brings attention to the major (often untapped) resource which our older population represent. The challenge for policymakers is to support our ageing population to enable them continue to contribute their experience and talents to help their families and communities. – Yours, etc,
