Madam, – That was the week that was – a stunningly successful royal visit, a UEFA final, a most dignified State funeral, an heroic victory for Leinster and a tremendous presidential visit. One week in the story of our nation in which all our public representatives, particularly our President, our public servants, our police and our Army excelled. A week in which we citizens reminded ourselves and the world of what a welcoming and determined country we are.

So, when the prophets of doom and the merchants of pessimism attempt to deny our ability and creativity, we can look back on this week with pride, confidence and profound hope. Yes, what a week. One would almost be tempted to suggest if asked to comment, Her Majesty might say, “Éire Abu”. – Yours, etc,
