Sir, – Minister for Finance Michael Noonan has made the claim that the IMF proposal poses an unfair burden on households (Front page, September 11th). He forgets the outrageous burden that he and his Government continue to pile on our children and grandchildren. By continuing the massive deficit spending programme he impoverishes the – as yet – unborn. Is it fair to force my grandchild to pay five times what he receives in benefits from the State, while I receive five times what I contribute to the State?
Future generations will pay for our current consumption, one way or another.
Deficit spending imposes costs on the next generation and is disgusting.
These future citizens have no voice in our democracy, yet we impose an unbearable burden upon them. Our intellectual elite is vocal in its support of the current regime. It has constructed a fantastic intellectual edifice to justify the system, of inflation, monetary control and circular financing. It is either ignorant or silent on the future implications. – Yours, etc,
