A chara, – I wish to thank the bank holiday users of the beaches of Renvyle, Co Galway this weekend for sharing with us your summer passions.
Your unauthorised, and non-enforced, use of these fine beaches for illegal camping, overnight parking, littering, fouling with human and dog excrement, driving of vehicles onto the shoreline, and finally motorbike scrambling, provided a memorable distraction from our fine, yet mixed weather.
My four young children were somewhat upset to be removed after a short time due to these activities. However, last year they were lucky, and had a holiday, also memorable, on the pristine, regulated and policed Blue Flag beaches of the Algarve, Portugal.
In the meantime, their over-taxed, burnt-out parents can’t wait to fork out €200 for the non-primary residence payment to Galway County Council in return for absolutely no local services, or monitoring, of this precious environmental and tourism resource.
I wish Tourism Ireland well in capitalising on our recent prestigious State visitors. – Is mise,
