Sir, – Damian Gill asks whether there is something wrong with us (Letters, August 18th)? He and his wife were out for lunch for 2½ hours without their phones but were dismayed to notice everyone else on their phones.
It’s such a weird world we live in now. We take for granted the immense natural beauty surrounding us, the everyday miracles of life and choose instead to watch things on a tiny screen so that we can say we didn’t miss anything (yet missing the here right now).
When I choose to go out and leave my phone behind, It feels a little like freedom.
Maybe we all could try put the phones away when enjoying a lunch, a coffee, time with friends. I think, in general, people would be a lot happier. – Yours, etc,
