Huguenot Graveyard

Sir, - I wish to protest against the building of apartments and shops on the site of a Huguenot graveyard in Cork.

Sir, - I wish to protest against the building of apartments and shops on the site of a Huguenot graveyard in Cork.

No matter what colour or creed, cemeteries usually are regarded as "untouchable", not subject to the ambitions, whims or greed of the living. In a city as large as New York, it is not unusual to see skyscrapers and apartments designed around small cemeteries or, for that matter, to see construction come to a grinding halt when excavation unearths gravesites that were not even known to be there.

Why should not this Huguenot cemetery receive the same consideration as those ancient monuments and burial chambers so lovingly restored and preserved by your Government? It is visible testimony of Ireland's past as well as a repository of the dead. I think this cemetery deserves saving. - Yours, etc.,

(Ms) Grace E. Cameron,Woodside, New York.

Celibacy And The Cardinal

Sir, - Cardinal Connell's view on celibacy (April 17th), that "the celibacy of our priests is a sign to the faithful of the permanence and surpassing dignity of their own married love".

So the priest's non-participation in sexual love is a sign to married couples of the dignity and permanence of their active participation in it? - Yours, etc.,
