A court report in the edition of July 21st concerning an Irish doctor who absconded while on bail, referred to the fact that the doctor’s mother, Maura Doyle, had to forfeit €100,000 in surety put up by her. For reasons of space limitiation, the report did not include Mr Justice Peart’s conclusion, given Mrs Doyle’s refusal to explain on affidavit the provenance of the funds - and despite being offered an opportunity to do so - that the sum of € 100,000 stated by Mrs Doyle to be her life savings, were in fact monies given to her by her son, the respondent in the proceedings, so that she could lodge it as independent surety.
An article in yesterday’s edition on the the MacGill Summer School described Donncha OConnell wrongly as a member of the Human Rights Commission. He is a commissioner on the Irish Law Reform Commission.
