Gardaí in Limerick are questioning a youth (16) over the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old Ukrainian student on the outskirts of Limerick city.

Roman Vysochan died after he was stabbed during a fight at a house in the Carrig Midhe estate in Corbally.

Gardaí were alerted to an incident shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday at the entrance to the estate near Westbury in Co Clare, which lies within the Limerick Garda division.

The teenager, who was a fifth-year student at nearby St Munchin's College, was pronounced dead on arrival in hospital.

A second teenager, who was  injured in the same incident, is in a stable condition in hospital.

Gardaí believe Mr Vysochan and his friend were attacked during a fight at a house, and that the dead boy collapsed on a footpath along the main road as he tried to escape from his attackers.

A 16-year-old youth from Moyross was arrested and is being held for questioning in connection with the incident.

Gardaí are now looking for another youth they believe may have been an accomplice to the fatal stabbing.
