Youth(16) critical after Dundalk school fire

A 16-year-old female is in a critical condition in hospital following a fire at a school premises in Co Louth last night.

The fire broke out at a building in the De La Salle Primary school in Dundalk shortly before 11 p.m.

Emergency services were called to the scene and found two teenagers in the schoolyard suffering from burns.

Both are being treated in St James' Hospital in Dublin. The 16-year-old girl is said to have suffered extensive burns and to be in a critical condition. An 18-year-old male youth is said to be in a stable condition.

A Garda spokeswoman said they were treating the incident as suspicious. The scene has been preserved for a more detailed technical examination.
