MOSCOW - A hectic first round campaign schedule appeared to be taking its toll on President Boris Yeltsin yesterday, writes Seamus Martin. He cancelled a trip to the military city of Tula and appeared exhausted in a television interview, leading to fears among supporters that his campaign was beginning to flag less than a week before Russians go to the polls for a second time.
One Moscow source told The Irish Times the elections could yet be cancelled because of illness to the president.
