Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin (69) was taken to hospital in Moscow today suffering from a viral infection, according to reports. He had a high temperature.

Mr Yeltsin, who ruled Russia for nine years, has a history of poor health. In 1999 he had a heart by-pass. He will be aged 70 in two days.
