THE benefits available to social welfare recipients who take up employment ensure that people are always better off at work, according to the Minister for Social Welfare.

Introducing a social welfare information campaign in Ballymun yesterday, Mr De Rossa said that his Department would shortly be running television advertisements to drive home this point. Those on social welfare should not be deterred from taking up jobs through misplaced fear of being worse off, he said.

"It is imperative that people who are in receipt of social welfare are kept informed of their entitlements and are given full information as to which benefit is the most appropriate to their circumstances," he said.

Many people are unaware of the social we If re benefits they can retain after they take up employment a spokesman said.
