A Co Dublin woman has told a jury at the Central Criminal Court that her father raped and indecently assaulted her from the age of eight until she was 19.

She said she submitted to the abuse in the hope he would not sexually abuse her younger sister. "I thought he loved me and that this was normal in families," said the now 29-year-old woman.

The man has pleaded not guilty to 24 charges of rape, unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent assault.

The hearing continues.
