A Dublin mother of two who claimed she endured years of pain because of negligence in dealing with her complaints by two Dublin hospitals and a gynaecologist yesterday settled her High Court action for damages.

Mrs Rose Quinn had sued the Adelaide Hospital, a representative of the Meath Hospital and gynaecologist Mr Paul Bowman. Mr Justice Johnson was told yesterday the action, which opened on Wednesday, had been settled and could be struck out.

Mrs Quinn (42), St Aengus Park, Tallaght, Co Dublin, claimed there had been a failure to take her previous medical history into account as well as a failure to treat her in a proper and adequate manner. She had a Gilliam suspension operation - for a retroverted uterus - in the Adelaide Hospital on February 29th, 1988 and claimed that, prior to this invasive procedure being carried out, there was a failure to carry out correct, full and adequate tests on her.

After various investigations were carried out on her at a London hospital, she claimed she had a hysterectomy after which her pain eased. She claimed the defendants failed to exclude pelvic inflammatory disease as a source of her complaints when treating her between November 1987 and January 1988. The claims were denied.
