A woman who made false allegations that she had been raped has received an 18month suspended sentence by Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal.

Philomena Hennessy (20), of Drumcastle Green, Coolock, pleaded guilty to making the false allegation that she was raped on January 30th, 1999.

Ms Marie Torrens BL, defending, said her client had no previous convictions. Hennessy's father left the family home some years ago for another woman. Following this her mother got physically abusive. Judge Dunne said the allegations could have had serious consequences for the victim.
