Woman jailed for killing partner

A mother of nine who pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her partner in Carlow has been given a five-year sentence.

A mother of nine who pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her partner in Carlow has been given a five-year sentence.

Anne Berry (43), stabbed 36-year-old Anthony Riordan at his home in Graiguecullen in the early hours of June 5th, 2009.

In the Central Criminal Court Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan handed down a five-year sentence. The judge noted Berry reported earlier that evening to gardaí she had been assaulted on the day of the incident but the deceased “posed no threat to the accused at the time of his death”.
