A woman who was struck by a number of tumbling 10 kg bags of potatoes in a Co Dublin shopping centre has been awarded almost £21,000 damages for injuries to her neck and legs.
The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Diarmuid Sheridan, granted the award one-third against Super Crazy Prices, The Square, Tallaght, and twothirds against a vegetable supplier, Paul Sweeney & Co, Peamount Road, Newcastle, Co Dublin.
Mr Brian Farren, counsel for Mrs Helena Lennon, Boot Road, Clondalkin, told the court that his client had been 20 weeks pregnant at the time of the accident.
Mr Justice Sheridan said the potatoes were wrapped in cellophane on a pallet and when an employee of Sweeney's cut the wrapping the top layer of what was a virtual "tower of Pisa" crashed down on Mrs Lennon.
