A Catholic woman was injured in north Belfast last night when a pipe bomb exploded outside her house.

The woman was injured when a pipe bomb was thrown into the rear yard of her home at Newington Street from an alleyway adjoining the loyalist Tiger's Bay area.

It exploded on the rear doorstep shattering all the windows in the back of the three story house, said police.

An RUC spokesman said Ms Rosemary Black suffered cuts to her arms in the blast, and was treated by a GP. She did not require hospital treatment.
