Cardiff - A woman was killed and a man critically injured when a giant landslide on a 200 ft cliff swept cars down onto a beach yesterday at Nefyn on the Lleyn peninsula in north Wales.
Two cars were swept 40 feet down towards the sea and were left sticking out of the mud as emergency services launched a major rescue operation in the face of an incoming tide.
The woman who died was recovered by a lifeboat but declared dead at nearby Porthdinllaen. The man was flown by RAF helicopter to Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor, with serious injuries.
A police spokesman said: "There is nothing to suggest anyone else is under there but we have got search-and-rescue dogs out just to be sure."
