Woman dies in fall from hospital window

Three separate investigations were under way last night after an elderly woman died after falling out a hospital window.

Three separate investigations were under way last night after an elderly woman died after falling out a hospital window.

The woman, aged in her early 80s, suffered injuries in the accident in South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel yesterday morning. It is understood she fell from a window on the second floor.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) confirmed it was investigating the death. And both the gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority launched investigations after being notified of the death.

A file is also being prepared for the coroner.

The HSE has met with the woman's family and extended their sympathies.

In a statement the HSE said the woman's death appeared to be the result of an accident.

The Garda also said it was treating the death as an accident.

"The HSE has met with and extended deepest sympathies to the family," the organisation said.
