Winds of 65 miles per hour have grounded some flights at Dublin Airport today.

A spokeswoman for the airport said there have been delays and some flights had been diverted to Cork and Shannon airports.

But Ms Siobhán Moore said: "The airport is open, and some planes are getting in and out. Other are leaving on time, others are not. It just varies from flight to flight."

Passengers are being told to contact their individual airlines for details before leaving for the airport. The main airlines are hoping services will resume as normal by this evening.

The airport had been close for 50 minutes earlier today due to an incident with a Delta Air Lines plane.

A airport spokesman confirmed that Delta flight 129 went off the runway and veered on to a grass margin after landing at 8.04 a.m. this morning.

The plane, which originated from Atlanta, USA, is about 500 metres away from the runway. None of the 167 passengers and 14 crew aboard were injured.

Ms Siobhán Scanlan of Delta Air Lines said that there had been no injuries. "All the passengers and crew are now safely off the aircraft," she said.

She said that the conditions at the airport at the time of the incident were rainy and gusty and that there would be an investigation.

The airport re-opened shortly after 9.30 a.m.
