THE STREETS of Limerick will be overrun with zombies at the end of this month, during Outbreak, Ireland’s first zombie festival.

From September 29th to October 2nd, Limerick will play host to hundreds of zombies in a massive themed party with proceeds going towards the Cliona Ring Foundation, which helps families with children suffering life-threatening illnesses.

Zombie flashmobs, parades, movie screenings, bands, DJs, will distract the zombies from going after humans in a number of venues and bars and restaurants in Limerick.

Outbreak organiser Mike McLoughlin said the whole event is a non-profit, community-driven event.

“We want to bring people together in a fun and original way, while raising money for a local charity,” he explained.

“Zombie festivals are growing in popularity across the world and it’s about time that Limerick has its own celebration of zombie culture too.

“Anyone can get dressed up as a zombie, it’s a bit of fun in fancy dress and gruesome make-up and we’re delighted to be supporting the Cliona Ring Foundation which gives financial support to families of children who are facing life-threatening illness.”

The main event will be a massive fancy dress “Zombie shuffle” through the city streets on October 1st. Willing zombies can apply online at www.outbreakfestival.com or via www.facebook.com/outbreakfestival.
