Johannesburg - A six-month-old baby was shot dead and an 11-year-old girl seriously wounded when a white South African farmer allegedly fired at them while they were walking on his land, police said yesterday. President Nelson Mandela learnt of the shooting with "shock and disgust", his office said in a statement. Police said the farmer, Mr Nicholas Steyn, shot at the three children, all of whom are black, with a handgun on Saturday after they ignored his warning to stop. He has been charged with murder.
