Kathleen Gaynor, Ballsbridge

"I have my bacon on the boil this morning, although I've never liked pork that much to be honest with you.

"We have to trust the Government I suppose, and go to a butchers that you trust. I go where my mam did all her shopping."

Gerard O'Neill, Seán McDermott Street

"I'll never eat pork again, never again. I threw it all out: my ham, rashers and a few other things.

"I go to the butchers every week and spend about €95. It was a waste of money.

"Young people are saying they'll never touch it again because they just don't know what they're eating any more."

Lorraine White, Moore Street trader

"I made a coddle on Saturday night and had it on Sunday morning, never mind the news about the pork, and I've bought my ham for Christmas.

"I threw all my pork in the bin. Rashers, sausages, ham, the lot. It must have been worth €10 or €15. Crazy. I wouldn't join one of those queues to get your money back though."

Peter Clerkin, Clontarf

"I've had rashers this morning, and I threw nothing out. How could you, when you think about people who are starving in the world? They were right to investigate, but they shouldn't have taken all the pork off the shelves until all their investigations were over."

Patricia Hopkins, Ballymun

"I will not trust rashers, sausages or pudding. Paté, which I love - it'll be a long time before I buy that again.

"I like the ham though and there's a special sticker on them now, so I'll buy a ham for Christmas. My son-in-law loves ham and he got it from me two weeks ago. There's nothing wrong with him!"
