Westlife to star in Special Olympics ceremony

Westlife are to lead the entertainment at the closing ceremony of the World Special Olympics on June 29th.

The boy band will top a line-up at Croke Park which also includes Blue and Liberty X. Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, June 7th.

Apart from the entertainment, those attending will witness the taking down of the Special Olympics flag and its presentation to the organising committee of the 2005 Special Olympics Winter Games which will take place in Nagano, Japan.

The climax of the ceremony will be the extinguishing of the Special Olympics flame to herald the end of the 11th World Summer Games.

"It is going to be a very emotional occasion," said Mary Davis, chief executive officer of the Games Organising Committee.

Tickets, at €30 each or €100 for a family of four, will be available from Ticketmaster outlets, on the internet at www.ticketmaster.ie, or by phone: (Republic of Ireland) 0818 719 300 and (NI) 0870 24455.

All proceeds will go to Special Olympics. The ceremony will also be broadcast by 2FM.

Tickets for the opening ceremony have been fully allocated to the 160 participating delegations, their families and supporters, including Team Ireland.

It is estimated that more than 20,000 family members will attend the opening.

Host towns are also receiving allocations.
