Boil water notice lifted for 65,000 in south Dublin and Wicklow

Woodstock business park in Kilcoole only place still affected by fault at Vartry plant

Irish Water has lifted a boil-water notice for about 65,000 people in south Co Dublin and Co Wicklow with immediate effect.

The notice which was issued on Monday is lifted for all areas except Woodstock business park in Kilcoole, Co Wicklow, pending the results of ongoing investigations. Irish Water said it had directly contacted the customers in the eight units within the business park.

In Co Wicklow it is lifted with immediate effect for the following areas – Ashford, Newcastle, Newtownmountkennedy, Kilcoole, Kilquade,Kilpedder, Kilmacanogue including Glenview Hotel/Kilmurray Cottages, Greystones, Cookstown Road, Fassaroe/Berryfield Lane, Kilcroney, Delgany and Bray and the areas between Callowhill and Cronroe including: Killiskey, Nun’s Cross, Coyne’s Cross, Prospect, Mount John, Timmore Lane and Dunran.

In Dún Laoghaire Rathdown, it is also lifted for the following areas – Corke Abbey, Woodbrook Glen, Old Connaught Avenue, Thornhill Road, Ballyman Road, Ferndale Road from its junction with Old Connaught Avenue to Allies River Road, the Dublin Road from the junction of Old Connaught Avenue to Allies River Road, and all areas off these roads.

The boil-water notice was put in place as a precautionary measure to protect about 65,000 people served by this supply following a mechanical failure of the chlorine equipment at the Vartry water treatment plant.

A chlorine dosing and a water sampling programme was carried out to test the chlorine levels in the impacted areas. The utility said the water was meeting all drinking water standards.

Irish Water was recently given planning permission to upgrade the Vartry plant. The contract for the two-year construction project is due be awarded at the end of 2018.
