Warning shots were fired by an Army sentry on duty in Portlaoise prison last night after a prisoner attempted to scale an internal fence.
The sentry, who was patrolling the perimeter walls, fired the shots into the air after the non-subversive prisoner was lifted up by a fellow inmate in an apparent attempt to shout something at prisoners exercising on the other side of the wall.
