British mobile phone giant Vodafone said today it had made a proposal for Vodafone Pacific to acquire Australia's Cable & Wireless Optus.
Under the plan, the merger of the two mobile businesses would create a new Australian-listed mobile group.
Vodafone said it would fund the deal by issuing Vodafone Pacific shares.
