Just 24 hours after agreeing a fee for Ipswich’s Matt Holland, Aston Villa manager Graham Taylor has inquired as to the availability of his Republic of Ireland teammate Mark Kinsella.

The Charlton skipper, who played a central role for Ireland in last night’s defeat of Finland, is wanted to partner Holland in the Villa midfield, as he did with Ireland during the World Cup in Japan and Korea.

Charlton today confirmed that they have received an official approach from Villa for the 30-year-old, saying the "midfielder is aware of the situation" and "the matter is under consideration."

Kinsella has made more than 200 appearances for Charlton since joining from Colchester in 1996, but a series of injuries last season restricted his appearances to just 18.
