WASHINGTON - A passenger train and a commuter train collided head on in heavy snow north of Washington yesterday, killing six people, a local TV station said. A spokesman for the local fire department said 14 were injured, two seriously.
Mr Cliff Black, a spokesman for the Amtrak long range train service, said the collision was, between a heavy Amtrak locomotive and the passenger car of the lighter MARC local commuter train. "It appears to be head on collision," said Black, who said that the MARC train was being pushed and the 13 car Amtrak was being pulled by two locomotives.
