The US Secretary of State, Mr Colin Powell said today the United States expected to give Indonesia about $50 million over several years to help the country expand its counter-terrorism and law enforcement capabilities.
Mr Powell is expected to flesh out the plan later today, but he has already said that restoring full military relations with Indonesia was still some way off.
He arrived in Jakarta last night, carrying the prospect of aid to help fight terrorism in the world's most populous Muslim nation, regarded as Southeast Asia's weakest link in the US-led war on terror.
