A US woman who gave birth to a baby that later died at the Cliffs of Moher has donated €65,000 for a First Aid station at the famous tourist site.

The facility will be named the 'Nicholas Room' in honour of the son of Delia Stokes, of Phoenix, Arizona, and her husband Kelly.

The First Aid room is part of a €31.5 million Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre which the couple will visit today.

Mr Stokes said he and his wife have been overwhelmed by the support and assistance of Irish people following the tragic events which occurred on their first visit to the Co Clare attraction last July.

"Co Clare is now very much part of our lives and we wish to play our part in initiatives which suitably commemorate our son. We hope that our proposal will benefit visitors to the Cliffs of Moher and the people of Clare who may require the assistance of the local emergency services in the future."

Clare County Council expects more than one million people to visit the Cliffs of Moher in 2007.
