US drugs firm Abbott Laboratories will create 195 jobs in Sligo with its new specialised pharmaceutical plant in the town.
The €55 million plant will be the first Abbott plant in the country specifically devoted to the production of pharmaceuticals.
Abbot already has a distribution depot in Dublin and five plants around the country employing 1,700 people.
The new facility will be built at Abbott’s 116-acre site at Ballytivan near Sligo town.

The Tánaiste, Ms Harney, said Abbott was one of the most strategically important companies in the north-west - having a wage bill of about €35 million and an annual expenditure in Ireland of about €50 million.
