A man from Northern Ireland had to be restrained by flight crew after threatening to blow up a plane on a transatlantic flight, a US court was told.

Aiden Mackle (44), of Portadown, Co Armagh, appeared before a US district court in Bangor, Maine, yesterday where he was remanded in custody.

It is alleged Mr Mackle had been drinking small bottles of wine when he became unruly, punching one of the cabin crew on board a Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta, Georgia, to Dublin last month.
